Man charged in Long Neck assault, resisting arrest

A Millsboro man faces assault, resisting arrest and other charges after trying to take an officer’s gun April 28 in Long Neck.

Delaware State Police responded at 5:38 a.m. to a home in the 26000 block of Oak Forest Lane in Long Neck in connection with a report of an assault on a woman. A short time later, police said, they found Brandon Myers, 35, on the property of a business in the 32000 block of Long Neck Road, and when they tried to arrest Myers, he resisted and tried to take a trooper’s gun from the holster. Myers was ultimately arrested after a stun gun was used, police said. Two troopers were treated for minor injuries.

Myers was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with felony attempting to remove a firearm from a law enforcement officer, two counts second-degree assault causing Injury to a law enforcement officer, second-degree assault, two counts resisting arrest, two counts criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $94,301 cash bond.
