February 5, 2018

Margaret (Marge) Gayhardt, 100, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at her daughter's home in Lewes. Marge was born Thursday, Aug. 30, 1917, in Dublin, Ireland, daughter of the late Frank Edward and Lucy (Mates) Peregoy.

Marge arrived in America with her mother, two sisters and a brother, landing at Ellis Island in New York City. Her father never joined the family, which caused a financial hardship for them. The children lived in foster homes in Baltimore, Md., until they reached an age where they could work and earn money.

Marge married Harold Gayhardt in March 1939 in Baltimore. They had three daughters, Myrna, Peggy and Lee. The family lived in Maryland and Pennsylvania until finally settling in Millersville, Md., in 1949.

Her marriage to Harold Gayhardt ended in November 1971. Marge then dated Irvin Simms for 40 years, and they finally married in September 2005 when she was 85 years old. She had lived with her daughter and caregiver Myrna Vidos for seven years. Marge had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marge's hobbies were jigsaw puzzles, camping with a trailer through the Mid-Atlantic states, and reading novels.
