The Mariner boys’ basketball team made it an exciting Valentine’s Day game at the Capital Classic, but fell to Fifer 35-30 in a back-and-forth contest.
Chancler Johnson and Jaydon Mifflin led the Vikings with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Nick Cox added eight. Donsha Sturgis added one.
The Vikings went into the halftime break down 21-9, but put up 21 points in the second half and were rolling, but time ran out.
“It was a back-and-forth game,” said Mariner coach Terry Hazzard. “With a young team, we have our moments. When we are up, we play well, and we have our down moments. We just try to push our kids to try to stay within the game and try to not let their emotions get the best of them. In a heated game like this with tough competition, we just say keep playing. You just gotta keep playing.”
