Mariner hockey beats Selbyville 1-0

Vikings play to scoreless tie against Sussex Academy
October 12, 2023

The orange hockey ball rolls slowly across the thick green grass of the Mariner Middle School home field Oct. 9, as the low-slung, falling sun blinds the family of fans looking west. There are rooster and duck sounds from the backyard behind the south goal as migratory honkers fly in formation overhead. An occasional chicken truck rumbles down Route 5.

Mariner hosted Selbyville and emerged with a 1-0 victory to ease out to a 5-0 record. M’Kiyah Bellamy-Hicks scored the game winner with a shot off the Selbyville goalie’s pads in the final seconds of the game. Mariner held a 4-2 advantage in both shots and penalty corners.

Mariner stayed unbeaten Oct. 11, playing to a scoreless tie against a tough Sussex Academy team.
