November 27, 2017

Looking for great Lewes gifts that are locally sourced and inspired? Look no further than the Lewes Historical Society Museum Store at 302 Savannah Road across from the Zwaanendael Museum in the heart of downtown Lewes. With items inspired by the society's collections and sourced from local vendors, artists and craftspersons, the store is the place to find that perfect gift for the person who loves Lewes.

"The store has a great selection of art and gifts by local artists," Museum Store Manager Suzanne Jones noted. "We are really excited to not only offer locally made items but have our visitors and guests have a chance to meet and talk with the people and creative minds behind them. Katy Ackerman's wonderful calligraphy captures the inspiration so many find here in Lewes and is available on notecards, glassware, and other items for your home."

Ackerman will be demonstrating her work from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, during Lewes Hospitality Night.

Ackerman notes that her calligraphy journey began when her high school sweetheart, turned fiancé, and she got engaged. "I knew I wanted fantastic envelopes to sit in each lucky recipient's mailbox and knew I could take on the challenge myself! In the past year and a half, I have taken countless courses and learned from some of the absolute best. I began an Instagram account in May 2015 to share my work with friends and family, and within a month I received my first order, turning Lewes Lettering Co. into much more than a hobby," she said. "Now firmly established, Lewes Lettering Co. is offering all sorts of custom work, from envelopes to quotes to personalized stationery."

Unique pieces featuring Ackerman’s calligraphy are available only at the Museum Store on Savannah. For more information, contact Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670 or go to historiclewes.org.
