Mermaid Day set Aug. 3 at Kids' Ketch in Lewes

July 27, 2017

Kids' Ketch in Lewes will host a mermaid event from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, to celebrate "The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay," an award-winning children's picture book published by Cat & Mouse Press.

Children will be able to meet and take pictures with a mermaid, and every child who attends will receive a free mermaid sticker. Nancy Sakaduski, author of "The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay," will personally inscribe and sign each book purchased. Children are welcome to come in costume (as mermaids or other sea creatures) if they wish.

"The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay" is getting rave reviews from parents and librarians as well as children, and it recently won a national first-place award from the National Federation of Press Women. The book's enchanting illustrations depict two characters: a girl who lives near the sea but is afraid of the water, and a child-like mermaid who is washed into a bay during a storm and is now far from home.

The realistic, age-appropriate characters appeal to children, and the imaginative, highly detailed illustrations captivate young and old readers alike.

The book celebrates the beauty of the sea and tidal areas, and depicts two strong female characters who confront their fears and achieve their goals on their own. The book is available only through stores.

Kids' Ketch is at 132 Second St. in Lewes. The store offers a wide range of toys, games, books, puzzles and other fun things for kids. For more information, call 302-645-8448.
