The organizers of the meeting about the Millsboro bypass underestimated the number of people who jammed the small meeting room of the Millsboro Public Library. Frankly, more than 130 residents packed a room meant for small gatherings. It is noteworthy as thankfully there was no need to proceed with an emergency evacuation. The emergency that did occur was the message the residents voiced as to their concerns about this $140 million project.
Despite a thorough presentation that outlined the details of such an undertaking, some residents’ questions went unanswered or officials were unable to provide specific responses to their concerns. Interestingly, the presenter made a reference to the rapid growth of housing development that will negate the usefulness of this project, which is meant to ease the traffic congestion in Millsboro. The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission needs to put a moratorium on residential development and be more diligent about infrastructure impact studies to address overcrowding roads, medical facilities, schools, etc.
