Millsboro Lions perform eye screenings for local children

December 5, 2017

Once again, Millsboro Lions Club members have been doing what they do best – helping to ensure kids can learn in school.

Kindergarten and preschool children at East Millsboro Elementary and Long Neck Elementary schools had lots of fun while being screened for eyesight issues such as astigmatism (irregularly shaped corneas or lenses), myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and anisometropia (differences between the two eyes).

Over 225 children were screened, and more than 50 received parent/guardian notices referring them to an eye doctor.

Fundraising projects such as the Lions fritter shack help pay for glasses if financial support is needed. School nurses Erica Jester and Barbara Star especially appreciated the Lions' assistance, and the Lions members really enjoy interacting with the children in the community.
