Millsboro man charged after stabbing woman, fleeing police

September 22, 2023

A Millsboro man, 23, faces charges after police say he stabbed a woman Sept. 22, stole a car and then fled from police.

Delaware State Police were called at 1:40 a.m. to a home in the 25000 block of River Bend Road and learned Davion West, 23, had entered the bedroom of his partner, who was sleeping with their 9-month-old baby. West woke the woman and the two argued before he stabbed her in the leg with a knife, police said. West then fled the scene in a red Mazda 3 that he stole from the residence, police said. Troopers recovered a knife in the bedroom of the Millsboro home.

A trooper searching the area for West observed the Mazda traveling on Harbeson Road in the area of Carpenter Road, and initiated a traffic stop. However, police said West sped away until he lost control and crashed on private property. West then abandoned the disabled Mazda and fled on foot through a cornfield, police said. Troopers received reports of a subject trespassing and unlawfully entering a garage on Shingle Point Road near Milton, and police eventually found West in the garage. He was taken into custody without incident.

West was taken to DSP Troop 7 and charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, disregarding a police officer signal, and other charges.

West was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of an $84,400 secured bond.
