Miracle Angels of Israel UMC support Beebe oncology for 13th year

September 26, 2023

The Miracle Angels of Israel United Methodist Church of Lewes recently presented Beebe Medical Foundation with a $6,785 gift to support Beebe Healthcare’s Oncology Services Patient Special Needs Fund.

The Miracle Angels group, under the leadership of the Rev. Marjorie Belmont-Burns, raises funds through a multitude of community fundraising activities including yard sales, bake sales and special events. For the 13th year, Israel United Methodist Church families and friends, along with Friendship UM Church, Indian Mission UM Church and St. John Second Baptist Church continued to make their annual donations to help Beebe’s Oncology Department.

Miracle Angels member Sister Betty J. Streett said, “Each year we try to wear a cancer survivorship color as it is a vast rainbow of colors and together, we win the fight against cancer. This year we chose pink to highlight breast cancer. Many in our congregation have, unfortunately, been touched by cancer, and it gives us great joy to be able to give back to the cancer patients within our very own community.”

The Miracle Angels of Israel United Methodist Church have been involved with raising funds for cancer survivors since 1999. For the past 13 years, all proceeds have been donated annually to Beebe in order to help cancer patients in Sussex County. The Miracle Angels chose Beebe so the donations would stay local to help cancer patients and their families at the Tunnell Cancer Center and the South Coastal Cancer Center.

“Donations to the Oncology Patient Special Needs Fund go directly to qualifying patients, helping to address barriers to care – emergent expenses such as prescriptions, food, essential living expenses and transportation,” said Maurice Winkfield, executive director of Beebe Healthcare’s Oncology Services. “Now more than ever before, requests for assistance are increasing, and oncology survivors are in need. Donations like this help to ensure that survivors can focus on healing. I want to extend our sincere thanks to the Miracle Angels for their dedication, having donated over $50,000 to Beebe Oncology over the past 13 years.”

As a community-based, not-for-profit healthcare system, Beebe Healthcare depends on the generous support of individuals, local organizations and businesses, corporations and private foundations.
