Mispillion Art League seeks Do More 24 donations March 7-8

Kids’ classes to be featured Saturdays in April
March 2, 2024

Mispillion Art League is participating in this year’s DoMore24 Delaware campaign, a 24-hour giving event showcasing the contributions of nonprofit organizations serving the First State. To support MAL during Do More 24, go to domore24delaware.org/fundraisers/mispillion-art-league between 6 p.m., Thursday, March 7 and 6 p.m., Friday, March 8.

The art league is spotlighting April kids’ classes with longtime instructor, member and innovative artist Michael Fleishman, a 2020 recipient of an emerging artist fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts.

All his classes are for students ages 9 to 12. Whether they have a passion for art or simply need to get out of the house and make some friends, they will have a blast in the April class series. Fleishman will host three different classes, each with four one-hour sessions, Saturdays, April 6, 13, 10 and 27, at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford.

I’ve Been Framed will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Students will use old picture frames and recycled collage materials to decorate a funky frame that can stand alone or house their latest drawings.

Creativity and sustainability meet in Corrugation Nation. Sessions are set for 12 to 1 p.m. Fleishman will guide students on a journey of imagination, using recycled materials to construct unique masterpieces. From cardboard boxes and plastic bottles to old magazines and tin cans, students will unlock the potential of everyday recyclables.

STAMPede, a stamp and stencil class for silly stompers, will meet from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants will use stamps, stencils and even their fingers with a mix of media to create a herd of fun. Students will explore with paints, inks, cool papers and more.

All classes cost $59 for members and $74 for nonmembers, plus a $10 materials fee for I’ve Been Framed.

An upcoming array of classes for adults and teens will include sewing a reversible apron with Lyanna Anderson, discovering new methods for painting light and shadow with Joseph Terrone, and making a botanical-themed ceramic platter with Mimi Galligan.
