MLK Celebration Organization thanks supporters

February 20, 2024

On behalf of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization of Sussex County Inc., I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who helped make the 36th annual Commemorative Weekend Celebration a success!

Together, as a community, we honored and paid tribute to the life and legacy of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our theme this year, Living the Dream: It Starts With Me! reminded us that each of us has the responsibility to build the beloved community of which Dr. King spoke.

Thanks to the CHEER Center of Georgetown for its support! Our group wants to recognize the contributions of Rep. Stell Parker Selby, our keynote speaker; Bryan Clark for providing music throughout the evening; and the Rev. Tesha Miller, who served as mistress of ceremonies.

Our Monday Community Worship Service was held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lincoln. We are grateful to the Rev. Claudia Waters and congregation for their kind hospitality. Thank you to Bishop Jamie Hazzard of the Welcome Full Gospel Holiness Church in Slaughter Neck for his stirring message of hope, Janie Miller for an outstanding job serving as worship leader and all the speakers, dancers and musicians who made the service so meaningful.

And thank you to this wonderfully supportive community, to all of you who attended the banquet or the worship service or rendered support by purchasing ads in our souvenir booklet.

Once again, in faithful support of our mission, the Cape Gazette published full-page ads to commemorate the weekend. We are so grateful for its continued support, and for the support of all the businesses and organizations that contributed to the cost of the ads.

A special thank you to all who donated to our scholarship fund so far this year. Your support is always needed and appreciated in perpetuating and nurturing the legacy, the vision and the dream of Dr. King.

Donations to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization may be made to P.O Box 781, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Contributions will help fund scholarships for deserving youth in Sussex County and the ongoing work of the organization. As we continue our efforts to make the dream a reality, we solicit your prayers and support to help us achieve our mission in 2024.

Thank you and God gless!
