Mother, daughter injured in Route 9 crash

November 28, 2022

A woman and her child were seriously injured Nov. 25 following a crash at the intersection of Route 9 and Hudson Road west of Lewes.

The crash happened about 8:15 p.m. when a man, 23, was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry eastbound on Route 9, and he tried to turn left onto Hudson Road, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.

At the same time, a 2016 Kia Forte driven by a woman, 28, was traveling westbound on Route 9 approaching the intersection of Hudson Road when for unknown reasons, Hatchell said, the Toyota driver failed to see the Kia and turned directly in front of her. As a result, he said, the front of the Kia impacted the front of the Toyota in the middle of the intersection.

The Kia driver and her 4-year-old daughter were transported to the hospital for serious injuries. The Toyota driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, and a male passenger was not injured.
