I was lucky enough to attend Dorothy Greet's first classes on whole foods plant-based eating at the Osher Lifelong Learning program back in 2011. She opened up a whole new world to me and presented information about the health benefits of plant-based eating which I had never heard from my cardiologist or my PCP.
It works! There is nothing else in medicine like it. I have been following a whole food, plant- based, no added oil plan for over five years and have never felt better. I have lots of energy, am almost medication free, lost weight effortlessly, and am able to live a quality and vibrant lifestyle which includes traveling and playing with young grandchildren.
I am grateful to Dorothy for introducing me to this information which has proved that lifestyle choices often can offer more benefits than medical procedures and pills.
Unfortunately, we do not often hear the alternative to pills and procedures from our medical professionals, perhaps because they do not know yet. The DVD "Forks Over Knives" was a life changer for me.
Walter Willet, M.D., the former chair of the department of nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, states, and I quote, "If you step back and look at the data, the optimum amount of red meat you eat should be zero."
It is an inconvenient truth of healthy living that it requires some effort as well as making oneself a knowledgeable patient. Dorothy has provided me with the information to make healthy lifestyle choices, and I am forever grateful.
