Mustaches for Kidds launches Sussex fundraiser

Kickoff set at Green Turtle in Lewes
September 27, 2016

Local men trade razors for raising; Mustaches for Kidds launches Sussex fundraiser

They can warm an upper lip, hide a scar or be a fashion statement. They can be sexy or scary or sinister. But who knew mustaches could actually help local kids right here in Sussex County?

Mustaches for Kidds is a pretty simple concept: mustache, charity, and competition infused with meaningless pageantry. Local participants register online at www.m4kde.org, say goodbye to their baby faces, and agree not to shave their upper lips for a month, trading their razors for fundraising. "Growers" get to answer confused friends' and family members' questions like, "Why are you growing that bizarre stache?" A great opener for donation requests, as all of this facial hair growth is for a very good cause.

The 2016 Mustaches for Kidds fundraiser will provide vital funding and awareness of Supporting Kidds, a grief counseling program for children and their families following the loss of a loved one that is expanding its programs into Sussex County as of Spring 2017.

One mother, having three daughters who completed the program stated, "The Healing Pathways Program was very helpful for my girls and me. The girls found lots of comfort in the other children. Each week the girls benefitted from the particular night's topic, especially the night they discussed feelings and remembering their loved one."

Children experience overwhelming feelings when someone close to them dies - sadness, confusion, shock, fear, anger, guilt and worry. In the midst of these reactions, children must also struggle with the reality of what has happened and manage a multitude of changes in their daily routines that accompany loss. When children look to adults for cues on dealing with their new circumstances following a death, often times their parents and guardians are equally overwhelmed and unsure of how to help them. This is precisely where Supporting Kidds offers supports, programs and guidance.

Beginning with a Clean Shave Day Kick Off, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Greene Turtle in Lewes will host this group of growers weekly, offering happy hour specials, networking opportunities and of course the chance to check in on each other's progress . The entire effort will be recognized with glorious pomp at the all too appropriate Stache Bash costume party, where the much coveted Sweetest Stache award, as well as others, will be given out.

This fundraiser is open to anyone willing to participate and they actively recruiting participants right now. It is a hilarious way for some guys to bring attention and donations to children who really need support and encouragement. Registration and additional information on Mustaches for Kidds is online at www.M4KDE.org
