Native American Heritage Month observed at Delaware Public Archives

November 18, 2017

In observance of Native American Heritage Month, State Archivist Stephen Marz and Principal Chief Dennis Coker and the staff of the Delaware Public Archives unveiled a new exhibition in the Lobby Exhibit Gallery. The exhibition, which features documents and photographs from the Delaware Public Archives holdings, is enhanced with artifacts loaned by archives employees who are members of the Lenape nation.

"We're honored to welcome Chief Coker to open our inaugural exhibition at the Delaware Public Archives to observe Native American Heritage Month," said Marz. "It was wonderful hearing the chief detail how the archives' holdings assisted the nation with the research that resulted in them becoming formally recognized by the State of Delaware as an official native people in 2016."

The exhibition is available for the public to visit during business hours at the Delaware Public Archives, 121 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. North, Dover.
