In the ebb and flow of the annual race between the Capes, each yacht club has had its day.

During the Cape-to-Cape Challenge VIII, it was New Jersey's Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May's day over Lewes Yacht Club.

Corinthian won top spots in two of three classes, sweeping the top five finishes in the spinnaker class.

However, sailors representing Lewes Yacht Club did well in the non-spinnaker class with skipper Nick Carter and Delgato taking first place. Delgato was third in the first race and second in the second race on Friday and then first in the race across the bay to New Jersey on Aug. 6.

Carter, a former LYC commodore, is one of the founders of the Cape-to-Cape Challenge.

Also for LYC in the non-spinnaker class, Mahal, owned by John Nelson, was fourth; Sante owned by Alyson Blyth was fifth; followed by Calaloo, owned by Timothy Douglas, in sixth place.

For LYC in the spinnaker class, Balance, captained by Richard Beebe, finished sixth and Born to Run, captained by Paul Collins, was seventh.

Results from two races on Aug. 5, handicaps and the traditional Cape-to-Cape Race on Saturday – this year from Lewes and Cape May – figured in the final results.
