Nikki Miller supports our future

April 9, 2024

I have more than a passing interest in Dr. Nikki Miller’s decision to run as a Republican in this year’s Representative District 20 race. Having known her since she was an elementary student at Lake Forest School District when I was superintendent, and having been able to follow her as her career in education evolved, gives me a unique perspective on her background, experience and potential for serving District 20 in Dover. I also hired her for her first teaching position in Seaford and watched her perform as the principal of Cape Henlopen High School, where I have been substituting for the past seven years.

People looking for candidates to serve them in government wish for people who are knowledgable, good listeners, creative, demonstrate keen human relations and leadership skills, and have an innate ability to solve problems. That sounds exactly like what a high school principal does. I watched Nikki deal with an assortment of challenges at the high school, including developing and promoting a vision, guiding the staff and students through the pandemic, providing coverage for all classes, developing schedules, creating and following a budget, and bringing families and educators together in a productive and positive environment.  All this without even a hint of verklempt. That’s not easy.

Lest those reading this feel that her abilities are only education related, I assert that this skill set is exactly what is needed in Dover – the ability to communicate, negotiate, lead, compromise, be proactive and solve problems.

Supporting Nikki Miller is supporting our state, our community, our youth and our future.
