Old-fashioned Oktoberfest in Lewes Canalfront Park set Sept. 30

September 21, 2017

Family and friends will celebrate the spirit of Oktoberfest under a giant Munich-style tent from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, in Lewes Canalfront Park. This festive community event will be held rain or shine, in conjunction with the Lewes Chamber of Commerce Boast the Coast event.

Oktoberfest features Bavarian-inspired food provided by Lewes-area restaurants Crooked Hammock, Jerry's Seafood, Kaisy's Delights, The Pig and Publican and the Rotary Club of Lewes. A limited-release, special-edition Dogfish Head beer being brewed just for Oktoberfest will be available along with wine and nonalcoholic beverages. Food and beverages can be purchased separately at the event.

Custom-designed commerative steins and long-sleeved T-shirts will also be available for purchase. The Happy Wanderers, an oompah band, a DJ, and the Bairisch und Steierisch German dancers will provide entertainment. Wearing dirndls and lederhosen is encouraged. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the event for ages 16 and over. Children under 16 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. To encourage support of local businesses, anyone who shows a receipt dated Sept. 30 at the door from any business located in the historic Lewes shopping area will receive $5 off the $15 admission price.

Proceeds from Oktoberfest benefit the Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park. Funds raised go toward maintaining and enhancing this beautiful park and help support free seasonal events in 2018 for the Cape community to enjoy. The park is at 211 Front St. in Historic Lewes on the banks of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. To purchase tickets, go to www.lewescanalfrontpark.org or visit the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, 120 Kings Highway. For more information, call the hotline, 302-645-2795.
