The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1787 announced that three parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients have been reserved in Sussex County. One space is at the CHEER Center in Milton, and the other two are at the AutoWorks locations in Lewes and Dagsboro.

For information about having a Purple Heart parking sign placed at a particular location, contact John Jackson at MOPH1787@gmail.com or 302-228-9577.

MOPH Chapter 1787 serves combat-wounded veterans in Kent and Sussex counties. The chapter meets at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month from October to May at Pizza King, 358 East DuPont Highway, Route 113, Millsboro. Attendees do not need to be members.

MOPH is unique among veteran service organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote patriotism, fraternalism and the preservation of America's military history. Most importantly, they provide comfort and assistance to all veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless and those who need employment assistance. MOPH volunteers provide assistance to hospitalized veterans at VA sites and state veterans homes.
