Parkinson’s education program for professionals set Nov. 3

The Parkinson's Education and Support Group of Sussex County, in collaboration with Beebe Healthcare and Johns Hopkins, is offering a free education program for all nursing professionals, physical, speech and occupational therapists. The event provides contract hours. The program is set 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Lunch is provided.

Participants will learn the latest on Parkinson's disease, including strategies to provide optimal inpatient and outpatient care from local professionals and from colleagues. Guest speakers represent the University of Delaware, the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University. Expert panelists with Parkinson's Across the Life Span begin the sessions, followed by Introduction to Parkinson's Disease, Medication and Hospital Management of Parkinson's, Non-Motor Features, Barriers and Facilitators to Function with Parkinson's, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology Management and Occupational Therapy Strategies. 

The Sussex County group provides education and support to individuals caring for those with Parkinson's disease. They meet at 1:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach. The next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 7.
