Please attend Go Red for Women Luncheon Sept. 20

August 14, 2017

I am looking forward to the 2017 11th Annual Go Red for Women Luncheon and Fashion Show Sept. 20.

It is always one of my favorites, and in my opinion the premier event of the year. I have attended it since its inception 11 years ago. The cost is reasonable for a fundraiser ($30) for the American Heart Association and everyone is invited.

The ladies of the Red Hat Society who always attend normally wear their red hats; some others wear their Fashion Show Hats! Almost all wear a red dress, and it is just beautiful to see the support and enthusiasm.

SoDel Concepts has now taken over the kitchen and has added another notch to their list of exceptional restaurants in our area. I was fortunate to have met Executive Chef Tom Deptula of the Clubhouse at Baywood in Long Neck where the fashion show will be taking place.
Chief Deptula is a very pleasant and personable man who was born in Wilmington and attended the University of Delaware. In the past he had been a chef for Victoria's at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel and the Blue Moon Restaurant in Rehoboth.

He had been in culinary for 13 years and has been an executive chef for eight. Since I was having lunch at the time, and I am planning to attend the Go Red luncheon I could not help wanting to ask some questions of the chef since the opportunity had presented itself.

Since SoDel Concepts has now taken over the Baywood kitchen, what has changed? He replied just about everything.

They have about a 90 percent changeover in staff and all have had training.

He characterizes himself as a critical thinker and has scrutinized each dish of the past year's menu. Some items are the same; others have been added. Several things he mentioned are that each dish is more plentiful and a lot of attention is placed on its detail. With these words he has my vote and I am now really looking forward to the Go Red Luncheon. If you would like to attend, do not wait to make your reservation. It is the best fashion show and luncheon of the year in Sussex County. Call 302-947-2640 for reservations.
