Please reopen file on Truitt project

February 17, 2017

I am a resident of The Villages of Kings Creek, which borders the Truitt Farms Development. I feel that the assisted living facility is not something that should be imbedded in a residential community; let alone one that has one small overburdened Shuttle Road, which serves at least six communities. First of all, was a traffic impact study conducted for a 365-day, 24/7 facility? Our information tells us that no traffic study has been done since 2010. Since then, a Fresh Market, Bed Bath & Beyond, Wawa, Bluecoast, and The Seasons community have been added to the Shuttle Road burden. Our neighbors may need to pay for our own traffic study to show how bad it will be.

In season, the gridlock at Shuttle Road and Route 1 with the Holiday Inn Express, County Bank, Exxon and Tanger Outlets all adding traffic to the newly added complex. Adding 90 homes and 120-bed assisted living facility and all its requisite staff and delivery trucks will make it an incredible challenge.

Has anyone thought of the consequences surrounding the the potential liability that may incur due to the length of response time in getting emergency vehicles to and from the facility? Everyone will be impacted by the traffic.

Please realize that very little notice was given regarding this facility since all the early plans showed only homes on the land. The original hearing was postponed once and set only six days prior to Christmas when most people were on travel. Many homeowners in Rehoboth Beach have second homes and so selecting Dec. 19 was no accident. There was only that date for input, and we feel due to the bait and switch, adding this commercial property to the mix so far into the process is not fair and does not seem to follow the guidelines required for proper notification. The Citizens for Sanity of Shuttle Road feel that the facility would be best placed on routes 1, 24, or 9 near other commercial buildings.

We would like to see the file re-opened due to the hasty closing of the case. Since Dec. 19, 100 of my neighbors have also protested the assisted living facility, but we have yet to receive an adequate response or any response from our elected officials.
