Podcast tackles taking charge of one’s own healthcare journey

August 27, 2023

Are the healthcare records of Delawareans secure? What are some ways to alleviate stress? How can consumers better manage their own health and wellness? These are just some of the topics discussed in the Delaware-based healthcare podcast, “Thinking About Healthcare.”

The podcast launched at the end of May with a goal of helping consumers take charge of their own healthcare. Co-hosts Anne Lara and Jack Berberian are both passionate about finding innovative ways to improve health and wellness.

“We bring the people that are in charge of healthcare to the table, and we get to question them,” said Berberian. “We want to empower the consumer to make better healthcare decisions.”

The 15-minute monthly podcast brings in leaders from all aspects of healthcare to explain what they do and how the system works. The guest for the first show was Randy Farmer, Delaware Health Information Network chief operating officer, who explained how Delaware’s health records are kept secure in the nation’s first live, statewide health information exchange. Subsequent guests include discussions with a nurse who is also a yoga instructor and a dean from Wilmington University.

Lara, former CIO of Union Hospital in Cecil County, Md., is a registered nurse with more than 40 years of experience in clinical settings and the information technology industry. Berberian is the co-founder and CEO of Delaware-based SecureNetMD, a company that has revolutionized healthcare technology for practitioners across the country.

“I’m always a nurse first. Health advocacy and advocating for my patients and now consumers is my passion. This is taking it to the next level,” said Lara.

The podcast drops the beginning of every month and can be found on all major podcasting platforms and on the ThinkSecureNet.com website.
