The Delaware American Legion Auxiliary, Oak Orchard-Riverdale Unit 28, would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to all of the volunteers and donors for their support on the MLK Day of Service held Jan. 15, at American Legion Post 28.
Volunteers from organizations such as legion post families, American Legion Auxiliary National President Lisa Williamson from Alaska, DE 50+ Advisory, Americorps, Beebe Healthcare, Bishop Burke Columbiettes, Rep. Jeff Hilovsky, Women of Sussex County, Moms Out & About, Peninsula Lakes and many others were on hand to pack 200 reusable grocery bags that were full of requested food items for Wilmington VA Medical Center's Veterans Food Pantry. The VAMC picked up the bags for distribution to veterans experiencing food insecurities.
The American Legion Auxiliary believes that no veteran who has served our country should have to be worried about food and other necessities. Thanks to the generosity of the community, our small contribution will go a long way in alleviating their concerns. You can still donate by viewing their Wishlist on Amazon and shipping directly to the hospital or taking your donations to the VA clinic in Georgetown. Again, the American Legion Auxiliary sincerely thanks all of you for making this Day of Service in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a huge success. On this day, MLK's question, "What are you doing for others?" was truly answered by these dedicated volunteers.
