Pumpkin Pie 5K, a race with awards you can eat

Will Rehrig, winner of the Gabby Gobble 5K on Thanksgiving Day in 16:16, came back Nov. 25 to win the Huffin’ for Pumpkin Pie 5K in 16:25, besting a field of 339 runners.

The top 15 in the race were Rehrig followed by Joey Andrisani in 17:14, Rob Rehrig in 18:00, Teddy Wasserman in 18:25, John Mikovits in 18:32, Ben Bamforth in 18:45, Emily Ritter in 18:46, Matt Klapek in 18:54, Justin Immel in 18:58, Nate Sneller in 19:12, Mike Armacost in 20:04, Martin Rodriguez in 20:25, Bennett Brumbley in 20:26, Sally Marx in 20:27 and Breck Vanderwende in 20:30.

Some pitched races on the girls’ side included Olivia Montini (20:44) edging Katie Kuhlman (21:18) in the 10-13 age group and Colleen Donohoe (24:02) over Marissa Washburn (24:51) in the 14-19 category. Other tight finishes included:

Sally Marx (20:27) over Kelly Tingle (21:24), 25-29

Abby Andrews (22:00) over Mary Atkinson (23:03), 30-34

Jo-Ellen Seufert (23:12) over Heather Nace (24:24), 35-39

Lisa Sherman (21:44) over Lisa Rini (22:19), 40-44

Lauren Johnson (25:23) over Lora Tittiger (25:29), 45-49

Brenda Mackintosh (22:26) over Kim Geyer (22:29), 50-54

Wendy Rodgers (24:01) over Maria Palavecino (26:13), 55-59

Carole Grunberg (31:35) over Teri Moore (31:39), 60-64.

JoAnn Szczepkowski ran away and hid in the 70-71 group, running 26:48.

On the male side of the street, some outstanding to outlandish performances included Gage Hall running 22:39 in 9 and under, Bennett Brumbley finishing in 20:26 in the 10-13 group, and Matt Dean (20:42) edging Paul Montini (20:49) in the 45-49 age group. Bobby Rehrig, whose sons Will and Rob placed first and third overall, ran 22:48. Other close finishes include:

Scott Wollard (21:22) over William Ryan (22:06), 50-54

Tim Young (21:59) over Mike Piorkowski (22:39), 55-59

Peter Michaelson (22:47) over Robert Fitzgerald (23:38), 60-64

Jules Woodall (26:16) over Jack Vassalotti (28:47), 65-69

Steady Tim Abbott ate up the field in the 70-74 group, running 24:59.

Jack Huxtable bested the 75-79 field in 28:12.

Lee Masser won his age group 80 and over runing 54:54. Doc was the only entry.
