700 show up to watch the races

A quadrangular carnival of middle school track and field attracted 700 spectators and four schools with boys’ and girls’ teams to Cape’s Legends Stadium March 23. Athletes from Cape district schools Mariner and Beacon along with Georgetown and Millsboro from the Indian River School District were in attendance. 

The Beacon girls were dominant on the girls’ side, picking up three wins to raise their unbeaten streak to 65 meets. Beacon beat Mariner 72-37, Millsboro 102-7 and Georgetown 107-2. Mariner posted wins over Millsboro 80-19 and Georgetown 88-11.

When scored as a quad meet, the scores were Beacon 115, Mariner 63, Millsboro 15 and Georgetown 4.

The boys’ side was dominated by Mariner, which picked up three wins in defeating Beacon 66-43, Georgetown 60-39 and Millsboro 57-52.

Other scores were Beacon 59-46 over Georgetown 46, Millsboro 57-52 over Beacon and Georgetown 58-49 over Millsboro.

Quad meet scoring was Mariner 72, Millsboro 47, Georgetown 45 and Beacon 36.

A tri-meet is scheduled for the Cape track Tuesday, March 28.
