Race for the Ribbon 5K makes real connections to kids with cancer

10th year of race and $100,000 raised
July 19, 2017

The 10th annual Race for the Ribbon 5K enjoyed a record turnout of 394 runners July 15. The race raises money for the American Cancer Society and local children with cancer, and this year the proceeds will top $100,000 raised.

Proceeds for the 2017 race will go to the Brittingham family: parents Shawn, a police officer, and Missy, a Cape Henlopen School District teacher. Their daughter Gabrielle had a tumor removed from her right calf, and after months of chemotherapy, the lower leg was removed followed by more chemotherapy.

The Greene Turtle on Wilmington Avenue serves as the venue and is a major sponsor. It’s a hot out-and-back course with no shade, basically looping through Country Club Estates before returning to the Boardwalk.
