A reason for the low primary turnout

September 30, 2016

In reply to "Where were voters in Sussex primaries" by Carol Hughes of Rehoboth Beach: The percentage of 20 percent for Democrats and 17 percent for Republicans appears to be a lack of interest in the two-party system. Perhaps there are a lot of independent or unaffiliated voters who could not care less about belonging to a party. A wild dream would be to get rid of the two-party system.

No more Democrat party and no more Republican party. The public wants politicians who care more about people than those politicians who care more about party loyalty and re-election. Perhaps we can refer to our Constitution and see how John Adams was elected and Thomas Jefferson as his vice president. Unfortunately the two-party system started with our Founding Fathers - Alexander Hamilton (Federalist) and Thomas Jefferson (Democrat Republican). No relationship to today's Democrats and Republicans.

The two-party system is so imbedded in the public's mind that in our lifetime it will remain Democrats and Republicans and remain divided along party lines. One of the big divides is shall we have more government or less?
