Red Lion Christian Academy beats Cape volleyball 3-1

Battle of 8-1 teams goes to the Lions

A showdown of 8-1 volleyball teams at Cape’s Little Big House Oct. 13 featured Red Lion Christian Academy across the net from Cape Henlopen.

The Vikings looked dominant, taking the first game 25-17, getting out front and staying there, making all the plays.

But the next three games all to 25 went to the Lions, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20. The clinching 25-20 victory game was tied at 19 before the Lions power-surged to a 6-1 advantage to close out the match.

Taylor Collier had 26 digs for Cape with Abby E’ Nama contributing 10 kills. They were backed up by Logan Shuttleworth with six kills and Sophia Spinelli with five. Shuttleworth also had 23 digs and 28 assists.

Cape will host Delmar Tuesday, Oct. 18, then play at Caesar Rodney Thursday, Oct. 20.

Red Lion was paced by Josita Marshall with 12 kills and 22 digs, Mollie Betters with 17 kills and 11 digs and Hannah McGarvey with 17 assists.

The Lions were scheduled to play Saint Mark’s Monday, Oct. 17.
