Rehoboth Concert Band benefit show set March 17

March 13, 2024

Rehoboth Concert Band will present With a Spring in Our Step from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, March 17, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.

The annual spring fundraising concert will feature a bouquet of musical wildflowers including stirring ballads, a Broadway medley, a few Irish favorites and concert band classics, all designed to put a song in the heart and a spring in the step of audience and band members alike. Proceeds benefit the Cape Henlopen Senior Center in Rehoboth Beach. The center’s mission is to provide a wide range of professional, active and socially engaging services to older adults in the community.

Making his public debut at the RCB podium will be Steven Kieley, the band’s new music director. Kieley retired to Delaware in 2019, after teaching high school and elementary school bands in Dutchess County, N.Y., for 34 years. Kieley just started with Rehoboth Concert Band in January, succeeding Sharon Still, the group’s founding music director.

“When I began working with the Rehoboth Concert Band in January, I encountered an enthusiastic group of music makers motivated by a profound love for music and dedicated to serving the community,” said Kieley. “The commitment at every level of the organization is inspiring and gives me great excitement for what we will be able to accomplish together in the years ahead. With A Spring in Our Step is our first step in this journey. With each rehearsal, I continue to be inspired by the progress, commitment and talent of our group. I look forward to sharing that energy and excitement with the public March 17.”

Tickets are $20 per person. Ages 18 and under are admitted free.

To buy tickets, go to rehobothconcertband.org, visit Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach, or pay at the door with cash or card.

“This is sure to be an exciting concert on several levels,” said Dianne Deming, board president and band member. “I know I speak for the band when I say that we are looking forward to introducing the public to Steve, and to celebrating St. Paddy’s Day with great music.”
