Rehoboth Concert Band show to benefit senior center March 18

March 3, 2018

The Cape Henlopen Senior Center in Rehoboth Beach announced a special spring fundraiser performance by the Rehoboth Concert Band is set for 3 p.m., Sunday, March 18, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. Spice of Life is the theme. Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door if not sold out.

For more information or to purchase tickets in advance, visit the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth, or call 302-227-2055.

In 2017, the senior center celebrated 50 years of service to the community. The center offers a myriad of diverse programs and activities including classes, travel, sports tournaments, movies, health and craft fairs, games and much more. Its center houses classrooms, a library, a billiard room, a gym and a large multipurpose room for dining, dancing and its popular bingo. Variety is the spice of life for its large membership.

Sharon Still, Rehoboth Concert Band director, said, “The concert will include a variety of spices, or genres, of music. ‘Ignition’ by Todd Stalter is a hot cayenne pepper with the spark of creativity for those who follow their own true passions and pass the torch to others. Anne McGinty’s ‘Tis a Gift,’ a sweet basil, is a celebration of the insuppressible and eternal spirit of humanity. A little hoedown with ‘Cotton-Eyed Joe’ by Chris Sharp will make you feel you have curry in your pants.”

Cape Henlopen Senior Center fundraises year-round to keep the center thriving. In the future, there are hopes to build a larger center on land that it owns on Holland Glade Road.

Rehoboth Concert Band is a 50-plus-piece band comprising musicians from all walks of life, including professional, semiprofessional, dedicated amateur and talented student instrumentalists. Some players learned to play in fourth grade and have never stopped, while others delight in finding their chops again after many years’ hiatus. All are united in the pleasure they derive from fulfilling the ensemble’s mission, which is to provide area instrumentalists opportunities to make beautiful music while enriching community life.
