Rehoboth Beach officials have authorized the city manager to issue contracts for $97,000 worth of fixes to a damaged stormwater manhole within the right-of-way of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.
City spokeswoman Krys Johnson said the manhole was destroyed by an embankment landslide and was first observed Nov. 30.
She said the manhole will be replaced 35 feet from the original location and reconnected to the main manhole. In addition, Johnson said 30 feet of shoreline in the canal will be stabilized with 25 cubic yards of rip rap.
The measure did not require a vote by the commissioners, merely their authorization, Johnson said, because the work is considered a standard administrative task. RYAN MAVITY PHOTO
