We voted for Stell Parker Selby because we believed she was the best-qualified candidate for Delaware state representative. We sympathized when she contracted a physical ailment, one she has refused to identify. Now, her behavior and absenteeism as an elected public official have become inexcusable.
The Democrats and the Republicans should acknowledge this and act. What I find disappointing is that the state Legislature does not know how to respond to a clear abandonment in office by an elected public official. So a person can be elected to public office to represent people in a specific region, be sworn in and then fail to ever appear again at the Legislature or to ever vote on an issue, without consequences. The state Legislature does not have a policy or rule on absenteeism or malfeasance in office, so no action would be taken. I can get elected, receive a paycheck, never work again and keep my position. What am I missing here? Remove Stell Parker Selby from office and appoint a qualified interim representative until the next election. Do your job!
