Republican legislator announces intent to run for governor

GOP leader Murray steps back from race
May 6, 2024

About a week after announcing she would run for governor, Julianne Murray said May 6 she is no longer seeking the office and will support Rep. Mike Ramone in his run.

Murray said she is stepping back from the race, but as the head of Delaware’s GOP she is going to continue to fight against the potential threat of a Democrat super majority in both houses of the Delaware General Assembly.

"I cannot sit idly by as our party faces the prospect of division and distraction," said Murray in a press release. "Now, more than ever, unity is our greatest asset in championing conservative values and reclaiming Delaware from the grip of radical Democrat governance. We must break the stranglehold of one-party rule."

Ramone, a Newark-area Republican, is the House Minority Leader. He recently announced his intention to run for governor, and said he planned to officially file soon.

Lewes resident Jerrold Price filed to run as a Republican in December, setting up a primary in September.
