Richard John Iovino, veteran, state retiree

Richard John Iovino of Harbeson passed away after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at Milford Hospice Center, with his family by his side. He was born in Queens, N.Y., June 23, 1943, to Rose and Gaspar Iovino.

Rich grew up in Bethpage, N.Y., where he served as student council president for the Class of 1961. He received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics education at SUNY Cortland and master of business administration degree from William & Mary. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1967-70, where he began his long career in the computer field. Rich was deputy executive director of the Office of Information Systems for the State of Delaware until his retirement in 2003.

Rich resided in Dover for 33 years, where he enjoyed many afternoons on the golf courses of Maple Dale and Wild Quail Country Clubs. His favorite pastimes were golfing, woodworking and exploring the ever-evolving world of technology and its latest toys. Rich was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Rich is survived by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne Iovino; his daughter Jennifer Wunderlich (John); his son, Michael Iovino (Manndi); his brother, Philip Iovino (Christina); his grandchildren, Ansley and Callan Wunderlich, and Avery and Emily Iovino; and his nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Rich was loved beyond words and will be sorely missed by his many friends and entire family.

A Celebration of Life will be planned and announced at a later date.

Final care for Rich has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
