Robert Morris Foulk, decorated former pilot

May 4, 2018

Robert Morris Foulk passed suddenly from this world at his son's home in Columbia, S.C., Saturday, April 14, 2018.

Bob is descended from a long line of families who emigrated to Delaware in the late 1600s.

Born in Wilmington to Jay Robert Foulk and Marian Hartman Morris, he was primarily educated in Delaware, beginning at Tatnall School in Wilmington, Harlan, Warner, P.S. DuPont H.S., the University of Delaware, Old Dominion University, and Southern Illinois University with advanced degrees in economics and business. Bob was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Delaware.

With an innate understanding of all levels of mathematics, his proficiency was daunting.

Bob was a U.S. naval flight officer who specialized in electronic warfare. His aircrew qualifications included numerous electronic warfare platforms including the EC-121M Warning Star, in which he logged over 2,000 hours while stationed at Atsugi, Japan.

Bob's decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, eight Air Medals, Vietnam Air Gallantry Cross for over 150 combat missions, National Defense, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Korean Expeditionary Medal, along with Meritorious and Navy Unit Commendations.

Bob also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a P-3 navigator and the Delaware Army National Guard as a signal officer during his 28 years of service to the nation. Bob retired from DuPont Engineering in research and development, and continued university teaching in multiple states over 35 years of tutelage, a great source of enjoyment to him. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Bob married Christine Homan in Christ Episcopal Church in Milford and they are the very proud parents of eight children: Brian H. (married to Pamela M.), David M., Robert C., Kristen C. (married to Joseph Buscemi), Elisabeth J. (married to David Oliver), S. Thomas, Matthew H. (married to Vanessa M.), and Carrie H. (married to Nicholas Juanillo); and grandparents to eight-and-a-half grandchildren: Caroline, John, Gwenna, Gabreal, Emeline, Conrad, Roxiana and Vayda. He is also survived by his only sister, Deborah A. Risley of Winter Park, Fla., many relatives and friends.

Bob was known for his ineffable intellect, patience, practicality and his infinite love for his family. Little sentiment can convey the void he leaves for all those who were touched by him. A special mention and thank you go out to our dear friends, Kevin and Cindy Wilson and family.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 North St. in Milford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the family's home church, Christ Episcopal Church, 200 North Church St., Milford, DE, or Faithful Friends at www.faithfulfriends.us, a no-kill, privately funded animal shelter for cats and dogs.
