Ronald Gordon Lawrance, dedicated first responder

Ronald Gordon Lawrance, 68, of Georgetown passed away at his home Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, surrounded by his family and in the care of Delaware Hospice.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 6, 1948, to the late Wayne G. and Mildred Dulany Lawrance. He was married to Connie Hurley Sept. 29, 1994. He worked as a truck driver for various companies over the years. He led an astonishing career as a first responder in community service. He first served at District 7 and District 8 in Delaware County, Pa. After moving to Delaware in 1986, he became active in Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, and for a time in the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad, Station 91. He held the offices of president, vice president, fire recorder and fire police lieutenant. He was awarded Life Membership in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Connie H. Lawrance and his children: Adrienne Nickerson of Georgetown, Dana Woods and husband Don of Wichita, Kan., John Greene and wife Gina of Gaithersburg, Md., and Kristy-An Ferracci and husband Michael of Millsboro. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Ashley Nickerson, Austin Woods, Ashley Woods and Randy Crum Jr. He leaves behind many, many friends in the fire service, and many people he helped over the years throughout Sussex County.

A funeral service and Celebration of His Life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, with Indian River Vol. Fire Company's Fire Chaplain Allen Miller officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. for viewing and visitation. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriot Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to the Indian River Vol. Fire Company, 32628 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
