Our family and the local Lewes/Millsboro community vehemently oppose the proposed Royal Farms gas station proposal at the corner of Route 24 and Robinson/Angola roads for the following reasons:
- Adverse impact to the safety of our residents. Gas stations and convenience stores bring proven additional crime to the area. Additionally, due to the number of new housing developments and residents, traffic has been increasing steadily. The ROFO project would significantly increase slow traffic on Route 24 and Robinson/Angola roads and impede school buses and safety/emergency services, creating new driving hazards exacerbated by the summer influx of vacationers
- Adverse impact to the safety of our local water and environment. The ROFO project would significantly increase the potential for gas and oil spills and car wash residue, impacting the drinking water for 23 local communities and the water quality of our creeks, inlets, marshes and Rehoboth Bay. Our local watershed helps to absorb floodwaters and provides an extensive habitat for native flora and fauna and doesn't need additional stresses
- The ROFO project is totally unnecessary. Local residents already have easy access to gas stations, car washes, grocery stores and convenience stores within three to five miles east and west on the Route 24 and Robinson/Angola roads intersection.
Bottom line: The ROFO project is contrary to the public interest, safety and health.
Please stand with your local residents and oppose this unneeded and harmful project.
