SeeShore Fest raises $27,000 for blindness research

Nearly $140,000 raised in eight years of annual event at The Starboard
September 5, 2023

Friends and supporters gathered at The Starboard Aug. 26 to enjoy a fun afternoon and raise more than $27,000 to help a local family’s quest to raise awareness and funds to fight sight loss.

Now in its eighth year, SeeShore Fest has raised nearly $140,000 to support the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the Feinbloom Low Vision Center at the Eye Institute.

The event was founded by Heather and Dom Napolitano of Rehoboth Beach in 2015 after Heather began losing her vision in 2013. Her working diagnosis is autoimmune retinopathy, meaning her body is attacking her retina.

Heather said she received so much strength and support from both organizations that she wanted to give back to them. The foundation drives research to find a cure for blindness, and the Eye Institute provides the visually impaired with information, instruction and access to specialized magnification devices.

Attendees took turns at four punchboards, each holding prizes ranging from $25 to $500, and this year lines of hopeful winners were so long the board ran out of prizes.

Other attractions included raffle packages, silent auction items and kids’ games Dax's Duck Game and Plinko Party, created by Heather and Dom’s children Dax and Laityn Napolitano.
