Sen. Coons to preach at Epworth Nov. 26

Coons holds both divinity and law degrees from Yale University
November 21, 2017

Epworth United Methodist Church has announced that Delaware's U.S. Sen. Christopher Coons will be preaching at its 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday, Nov. 26. The public is cordially invited to attend. The service will be American Sign Language interpreted.

Coons holds both divinity and law degrees from Yale University. Prior to being elected to the U.S. Congress in 2010, he served as an active lawyer, county executive, and has been a longtime advocate for the disadvantaged in Delaware.

The invitation to preach at Epworth was initiated by the Bridging the Divide class. Bridging the Divide is a study group composed of members of three local United Methodist congregations - the predominately African-American Faith and Israel churches, and the predominately Caucasian Epworth. The class began with a study of Michelle Alexander's book, “The New Jim Crow,” which explores incarceration issues in this country. The class also has sponsored the musical, "Rosedale Revisited," which reprised the days of this Sussex County African-American resort. The group's next project, which is open to all, will be another book study followed by another public event later in 2018.
