Southern Delaware Tourism names photo contest winners

Southern Delaware Tourism recently announced the winners of its eighth annual Southern Delaware Photography Contest.

Contest organizers are grateful to professional photographers Pam Aquilani and Tony Pratt, who served as judges this year.

The Southern Delaware Tourism team extends thanks to tourism partners that contributed contest prizes, including: Coast Rehoboth Beach, Tapestry Collection by Hilton; Big Fish Restaurant Group; Kindle Restaurant; Cape Water Tours & Taxi; Delaware State Parks; Hotel Blue; Milton Theatre; Bramble & Brine at the Buttery; Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center; Funland; Grotto Pizza; Block Party Hotels; East of Maui; and Dewey Beer Company.

Grand-prize winner was Shelby Howell of Leesburg, Va., for the photo of a child on the beach throwing a toy.

For the photo of a surfer, Marion Dowling of Ocean View won the Southern Delaware Action Shots category.

For her photo of children in a Funland car, Beverly Cleaver of Ocean View won the Southern Delaware Amusements & Boardwalk Bites category.

For his photo of a performance at Freeman Arts Pavilion, Thomas Gelnett of Ocean View won the Southern Delaware Holidays & Events category. 

“This contest was established to celebrate Southern Delaware and to keep our destination top of mind for visitors and potential visitors year-round,” said Scott Thomas, SDT executive director. “We received entries from all over the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. The entries clearly demonstrate the variety and richness of experiences available in Sussex County, and the incredible enjoyment people get from visiting and living here.”
