Special screening of ‘True Conviction’ documentary set July 3

June 22, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will host a special screening of "True Conviction," a documentary directed by Jamie Meltzer, at 4 p.m., Monday, July 3, at the Cinema Art Theater at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza behind the Lewes Wawa.

There's a new detective agency in Dallas, started by three exonerated men with decades in prison served among them, and they look to free innocent people from behind bars. "True Conviction" follows these changemakers as they try to rebuild their lives and families, and also attempt to fix the criminal justice system.

Director Jamie Meltzer takes viewers into the real-life crime drama that surrounds these freedom fighters on their quest for justice. Brought together through the painful experiences of serving time in jail for crimes they didn't commit, these brave men embark on a journey of a lifetime to free those wrongly accused and still behind bars.

As the drama unfolds, viewers are given privileged access and insight not only into the personal lives and struggles of the detectives, but also to the difficulties they face in the pursuit of justice. "True Conviction" is an incredible portrait of those who are able to overcome their past, and use the knowledge and lessons from the journey to help others and effect real change

"True Conviction" had its world premiere at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Meltzer's feature documentary films have been broadcast nationally on PBS and have screened at numerous film festivals worldwide. His current documentary project, "True Conviction," is a co-production of ITVS and the recipient of a Sundance Institute grant and a MacArthur grant.

Meltzer's family has a second home in Rehoboth where he enjoyed 25 years of glorious summers. Now Rehoboth is a part of his own family vacations with his two small children spending their first summers enjoying the beach as well.

Admission is $8 for film society members and $10 for nonmembers. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095.
