St. George AME dedicates historical marker

St. George AME Church and Cemetery were honored June 23, in Lewes with a historical marker dedication. About 150 community members gathered on the side of Pilottown Road at the cemetery, to remember the beginnings of the church. Stephen Marz, director and Delaware state archivist, was joined by Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes; Rep. Stephen Smyk, R-Milton;  Lewes Mayor Ted Becker; Mike DiPaolo, Lewes Historical Society director; the Rev. Deborah McCaffity, St. George AME; the Rev. Ellis Louden, presiding elder Dover District AMEC;  Leonia Robinson; the Rev. George Edwards, Friendship Baptist Church; The Rev. Earle Baker, Bethel UMC; and Cape Henlopen JROTC. The public was then invited back to St. George AME on Park Avenue for a concert by The Crusaders of Frankford and celebration with dinner.
