CHEER Inc. held its annual Military Honor Day and 16th Annual Patriot Day Observance Sept. 13. Students from Sussex Academy, Sussex Technical High School, Laurel Middle School and Lighthouse Christian School visited the educational displays highlighting historical military events in American history. The students also had the opportunity to meet four veterans of World War II who shared their experiences and memories of fighting in that war. They included U.S. Army veteran Ernest Marvel of Clarksville, who served in Germany; U.S. Navy veteran Urba "Butch" Kopera of Lewes, who served in the Pacific theater; and U.S. Army nurses Eleanor Orkin of Milford and Romaine Rupp of Seaford.
