September 15, 2017

On Aug. 28, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Patricia Oliphant, welcomed 736 students to Sussex Academy. It was an exciting day as the students were happy to start school and the faculty was happy to welcome them.

This year, Sussex Academy begins with a fully subscribed middle school and ninth grade, and 59 seniors. The school also welcomed eight new teachers to the faculty. They are: Erin Bryan, Spanish, computer; Colin Marine, English; Alyssa Lupinetti, writing; Matthew Oliver, social studies; Cindy Smith, math; Cody White, RTI/paraprofessional; and Kristin Johnson, paraprofessional/aquatics center.

This month, the school will conclude its final phase of construction with Burton's Nest, an auxiliary building that will house concessions, restrooms, storage and a trainer room.

Sussex Academy is a public charter, tuition-free school in Georgetown. Serving sixth through 12th grades, the school practices a project-based learning approach, and all 11th- and 12th-grade students participate in the International Baccalaureate program.
