Sussex Central Rotary scholarship applications due May 1

April 4, 2024

Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club announced Sussex Central High School seniors may apply by Wednesday, May 1, to win one of four $2,000 Service Above Self Scholarships. To obtain applications, visit the guidance office at Sussex Central or go to longnecksunriserotaryclub.com.

A committee of Rotary members will review the applications submitted for merit. Factors contributing to selection include academic performance, financial need and an exhibition of community service to fit with Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. Students who are members of the Sussex Central Interact Club are given special consideration.

The scholarships will be announced at the school’s award ceremony in May. Recipients can choose to have the monetary award sent to the college they will be attending for tuition costs, or use it to defray expenses they might incur for computers and books.

“We are so happy to offer these scholarships to deserving students,” said Christine Tomalin, the Long Neck Sunrise Rotarian who is managing the application and award process. “We are consistently amazed by the caliber of students who apply and look forward to getting to know this year’s applicants.”

Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club currently meets for breakfast at 7:30 a.m., most Tuesdays, at the Ocean Grill Il on Long Neck Road near Millsboro; it also offers Zoom participation. Visitors are welcome.
