Sussex Genealogical Society to meet March 17

March 14, 2018

The Sussex County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 17, at Lewes Public Library. Guest speaker Kim Bucklaw will talk about Geographic Timelines: 19th and 20th Century Directories and Urban Genealogy. Attendees will learn how to use clues in directories, along with timelines, to solve mysteries pertaining to ancestors in cities. Bucklaw is an archivist and researcher at the Chester County Archives and very knowledgable about how to find ancestors in large cities using documents generated from urban areas where many ancestors may have lived and worked.

A business meeting will follow the speaker’s presentation.

SCGS is dedicated to promoting genealogy and education to encourage and instruct in genealogical research. The scope of interests reaches far beyond Sussex County. The society has monthly membership meetings from September to May with informative and helpful presentations. The education committee holds multi-week spring and fall discussion groups. A special online interest group called Genie Bytes has formed due to members' suggestions. For up to-date info on meetings and times, go to www.scgsdelaware.org or follow SCGS on the frequently updated Facebook page.

Upcoming meetings are going to be exciting and informative for members and visitors alike. The organization has members from Sussex County and surrounding counties. Some members do not have roots in Sussex County, but they use the information learned at meetings and workshops to enhance their ancestry research skills.

Anyone interested in finding ancestors or who may be at a standstill in research will benefit from attending the meeting. The public is invited to all meetings and workshops; there is never a fee. There is plenty of free parking at the Lewes library.
