Sussex Republican Women present scholarships

August 9, 2017

The Sussex County Republican Women's Club presented $4,000 in scholarships to five local women at the June meeting at Kings Creek Country Club. The scholarships are offered in memory of Lillian Martin who, in 1952, founded the club, and served as the first president of the Delaware Federation of Republican Women.

The five recipients were among 24 young women who submitted applications for consideration by the scholarship committee. "We are so pleased that the club has been able support and encourage these talented young women in their endeavors this year," said Cathy Watts, SCRWC president.

The five recipients are Sydney Smyk of Milton, who attends the University of Delaware; Veronica Townsend of Dagsboro, who attends Elon University School of Law; Hayley McCabe of Millsboro, who plans to attend James Madison University; Hayden Shockley of Milford, who plans to attend Montclair State University; and Samantha Mumford of Millsboro, who plans to attend Salisbury University.

The club’s mission is to support Republican candidates, advocate for Republican Party principles, and empower women to become involved in the political process of the country.
