I have a great plan, grounded in logic and past success, for 2024. Let’s build thousands (not merely hundreds) of houses throughout Sussex County and virtually zero roads or supporting infrastructure. Let’s clear-cut forests, defecate on the environment, shoehorn additional plastic, planned housing into every nook and available open space, and absolutely destroy the quality of life and distinct charm of the county.
We can then have our DelDOT friends build roundabouts and grade-separated interchanges (i.e., flyovers) to help alleviate the obscene amount of motor vehicle traffic that accompanies the unnecessary development. I am completely serious. Who needs additional surface transportation capacity (i.e., roads) when you can build roundabouts? Finally, we can continue to encourage the builder/developer/Realtor industrial complex to advertise “coastal living” and a “lower, slower” quality of life.
As for all the nice people moving to Sussex County – caveat emptor – do not take the bait! Regrettably, the county you see today will look dramatically different than the one you will live in tomorrow. Oh, and to make the horror complete, in 2024 we can re-elect a majority (three of five seats) of a county council that has failed abysmally at establishing even a modicum of balance between competing (and legitimate) interests among landowners, the environment and current Sussex County residents.
Onward to 2024!
